Matiana,
is a simple little village in the Himachal situated at NH 22 and about an
hour’s drive from Shimla. Its
geographical coordinates are 31° 13' 0" North, 77° 25' 0" East.
Matiana is located at 2400 mtr height above sea level, thus experiences snow in
the winters. It is 47 KM from Shimla, 15
Km from Tehsil headquarter Theog and 16 KM short of Narkanda. People are
devoted to Devi Ma Maheshwari(Durga or Bhagvati). People worship goddess Dugra
with very strong belief and devotion.
Their
main occupation is agriculture which mainly involves growing vegetables
including cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes and capsicum; and fruits
like apples, peaches, cherries and apricots Apple is the major crop grown by
the people of Matiana.
Pahari
and Hindi are the main languages spoken by people. Women folk equally
participate with their male counterparts in day-to-day activities.
